Muldoon's sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa, described the circumstances of his death to the Daily Mail. She said that on Sunday morning, after drinking coffee with his girlfriend at their Beverly Hills home, Muldoon went to take a shower. His girlfriend later found him unconscious on the bathroom floor after thinking he was taking a long time. Paramedics arrived at the scene. The exact cause of death, beyond a reported heart attack, has not been officially confirmed, and it is unknown whether an autopsy has been conducted or if funeral arrangements have been made.
Actress Tori Spelling also posted a tribute to Muldoon on Instagram. According to Spelling, the two met on a blind date that occurred while they were both on a television series. She wrote that she fell in love with his beautiful soul. Spelling grew close to Muldoon's family, including his sister Shana Muldoon-Zappa, and said Muldoon supported her through her divorce from Dean McDermott. The pair starred together in the film Deadly Pursuits.
This is so hard for me to put into words.
Muldoon's acting career included notable roles on the soap opera Days of Our Lives, where he played Austin Reed, and on the primetime drama Melrose Place. His portrayal of Austin Reed made him a recognizable figure in television during the 1990s.
Reactions from Denise Richards' circle have been shared on social media. Richards' daughters, Lola and Sami Sheen, liked her Instagram tribute post, as did Tori Spelling. Lola Sheen said Patrick Muldoon was a huge part of their family. Richards and Muldoon dated from 1997 until 2000, and he later appeared on her reality TV shows The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills and Denise Richards & Her Wild Things. In her tribute, Richards wrote that she was deeply heartbroken and devastated, adding that they met in their first acting class when she was 19.
I am deeply heartbroken & devastated losing you. You were my best friend & my family.
Official details regarding the time and location of death remain unclear, and the identity of Muldoon's girlfriend mentioned in the Daily Mail report has not been disclosed.
We met in our first acting class, I was 19 never had an acting job and you were 21 a student at USC doing a recurring role on who’s the boss.
And here we are. 36 years later. My whole adult life & I don’t know it without you. The friendship, love, support, respect & loyalty we had was unconditional and rare. You lit up every room you walked into. You are larger than life & Everyone was drawn to you. So talented & most underrated actor. And most humble.
Everything you did was infectious. Your laugh, your kindness, your wit, your strength, your loyalty, your passion, and your zest for life. We’ve been each other’s rock. Our memories together are endless. You’ve had my back and protected me more than anyone.
I don’t know what I’m going to do without you here. You’re my voice of reason & pillar of strength. Especially during this last year of pain & heartache. And now I need you more than ever, for this pain and heartache losing you. Schweetbabe we’ve had those conversations. We thought we’d live forever or at least into our 90’s. Schweetbabe I will be looking for those signs. I need to know you’re still here with me. I love you so much & miss you dearly schweetbabe.
This post took me a couple days. I wasn’t ready to write because then it felt real. And, this shouldn’t be real. @thepatrickmuldoon and I met on a blind date. Which thankfully wasn’t a blind date at all because we were both on a tv series.
Like every other girl in the world I crushed on his character Austin from Days of Our Lives.
Not sure I ever disclosed that to him.
What I met and ultimately fell in love w/ was not just a beautiful on the outside creature but the most beautiful soul.
He was special and one of a kind. The kindest most caring human w/ raddest weird sense of humor. We got each other! Laughed a lot ! I laughed w/him and at him and he loved it. Was multi talented. Passionate about everything he did. And, he had a knack for making others smile + brought absolute joy to everyone that was blessed to be in his orbit. A true gift.
We shared a love of Broncos, guitars, goofing off, playing tag, and Grease! Loved to belt out Grease. I was Sandy to his Danny!
I also fell in love w/his sister @shanazappa. Their close brother sister relationship reminded me of my brother. His parents are amazing as well.
I loved how close their family unit was! Professionally he always showed up. And, was a true hype man 4 those he cared about. He was a huge part of my formative 20’s.
We went on to be good friends! Still laughing + always caring.
