Irish consulting firm Accenture has reportedly acquired the connectivity division of media and internet company Ziff Davis for $1.2 billion, according to multiple sources. The acquisition includes popular internet services Downdetector and Speedtest.net, along with brands Ookla, Ekahau, and RootMetrics.
Ziff Davis, which operates websites including IGN and Mashable, sold its entire connectivity division to Accenture in a deal that was announced on March 4, 2026. Downdetector is a service that monitors whether online services are experiencing outages, while Speedtest.net allows users to measure their internet connection speed.
Following the streamlining of its operations, Ziff Davis is expected to focus on its media properties such as IGN and Mashable, according to reports citing Reuters. The acquisition reportedly caused Ziff Davis's stock to rise by over 60 percent when the sale became official, while Accenture's stock remained stable.
The $1.2 billion transaction represents a significant move by Accenture into consumer-facing internet connectivity services, expanding beyond its traditional consulting business. Both Downdetector and Speedtest are widely used services that have become go-to resources for internet users experiencing connectivity issues or wanting to test their connection speeds.
