On 28 March, the car, allegedly driven by the 13-year-old, swerved towards Jewish families in Ripponlea about 7pm as they crossed the road at the intersection of Hotham Street and Glen Eira Road, according to police. The families narrowly escaped being struck by the car, and there were no physical injuries from the swerving incident. The car was also on Glen Eira Rd at St Kilda East on Saturday afternoon, where one man reportedly had to jump back from the roadside as the car swerved toward the sidewalk, witnesses said.
The girl and two other girls were allegedly seen driving a stolen black Hyundai sedan in the south-eastern suburbs of Hampton, Ripponlea, and Caulfield over multiple days last week, police reported. Footage has emerged of an allegedly stolen black sedan making an illegal turn at a Melbourne CBD intersection, as the occupants yelled antisemitic abuse at a group of pedestrians in traditional Jewish clothing, according to witnesses and police. Witnesses claimed the women inside the car also threw eggs at pedestrians. The car had previously been seen driving erratically in the Hampton, Ripponlea and Caulfield areas, police said.
Three female occupants were arrested at the scene and taken into custody. The 13-year-old girl was charged with offences including reckless conduct endangering serious injury, multiple counts of theft, multiple counts of theft of motor vehicle, burglary, handling stolen goods, and threatening physical harm or property damage on ground of a protected attribute, police said. She was remanded to appear at a children’s court. Another 13-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl, both from the Cardinia area, were also arrested. Police stated there is absolutely no place at all in our society for hate-based behaviour and such activity will not be tolerated, and an investigation into the incidents remains ongoing.
