A new treatment method for moderate to severe depression using short magnetic pulses to the brain is now available in Norrbotten. The therapy, called rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation), offers a milder alternative to electroconvulsive therapy.

Region Norrbotten is implementing a new treatment plan and expanding psychiatric services, including inpatient care places and mobile acute units, to address long-standing criticisms and current seasonal pressures, though staffing difficulties persist in some areas.
