An Iranian asylum seeker's case will be reheard after an Upper Tribunal judge cited significant developments in Iran and his life, including depression from living in Gateshead.

North East mayor Kim McGuinness has announced £104 million in funding to revive two stalled developments in Gateshead and Sunderland. The projects, a concert venue and film studios, are being scaled back from original plans.

Alice Ruggles, 24, was found dead in her Gateshead flat in October 2016. Her attacker was identified as Trimaan 'Harry' Dhillon, a British Army Lance Corporal.

Gateshead has announced a bid to become the UK's Town of Culture for 2028, following changes to the competition's entry criteria. The bid was unveiled at a gathering of the area's creative sector at Gateshead College on Thursday.
