  • Simon Taylor found guilty of gross misconduct, resigned before dismissal, now works as school safeguarding lead
  • Marcin Laszczak contacted sex workers 61 times, resigned before misconduct hearing
  • David Henzell dismissed for sexual harassment and sleeping on duty, placed on barred list

Former police officer Simon Taylor was found to have committed gross misconduct at a disciplinary hearing, and he would have been dismissed from the police had he not already resigned in August. Simon Taylor began working as a safeguarding lead at Cottenham Village College in September. Cambridgeshire Police's reference to the school stated Simon Taylor resigned during a live investigation and confirmed it did not relate to children. Simon Taylor's name was added to the College of Policing's advisory list after his resignation, meaning it would appear in a DBS check. Astrea Academy Trust said it was not involved in police processes and was unaware of the allegations against Simon Taylor before they were made public. The trust also said the police confirmed their internal investigation into Simon Taylor was not a safeguarding matter and his DBS was clear at the time of checking. Simon Taylor said he made inappropriate comments while struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder and resigned before the misconduct hearing.

Former Greater Manchester Police officer Marcin Laszczak contacted sex workers 61 times over a protracted period. Marcin Laszczak resigned from Greater Manchester Police the day before his misconduct hearing. He was found guilty of gross misconduct and would have been sacked and placed on the College of Policing's barred list had he not resigned. The Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police said the officer was remorseful and experiencing a difficult personal life at the time.

During my time in the police, I made inappropriate comments whilst struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder, I take full responsibility and regret these comments. There were no criminal allegations, and I resigned prior to the misconduct hearing.

West Midlands police officer David Henzell was dismissed without notice after a gross misconduct hearing. David Henzell was found to have sexually harassed a colleague, made inappropriate sexual comments to another colleague, and slept while on duty. He has been placed on the College of Policing's Barred List, preventing him from working in policing and other law enforcement bodies again. The Deputy Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police said the behaviour was unacceptable and a breach of public standards.

These cases highlight systemic concerns about police officers resigning before misconduct hearings and potentially moving to sensitive roles, raising questions about vetting and reference processes. Authorities have not detailed any reforms to address these loopholes, leaving uncertainties about future accountability measures.
