Emergency incident and train fault cause major rail disruptions across Scotland
Nyckelpunkter
  • Emergency incident between Perth and Stirling disrupts routes into Glasgow Queen Street
  • Train fault at Gleneagles halts services from Perth towards Glasgow
  • Sydney delays triggered by incident at Parramatta station

Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Perth and Stirling, affecting many routes into Glasgow Queen Street station. A ScotRail spokesperson said services passing through the area between Perth and Stirling will be disrupted. The spokesperson added that Aberdeen services are partially cancelled or started at Perth, Queen Street to Dundee services are cancelled, and Edinburgh to Inverness services will run via Fife.

Buses will run between Glasgow Queen Street, Stirling, and Perth, and rail tickets will be accepted on CityLink buses between Perth and Glasgow in both directions until the end of service, starting at 19:00. The number of passengers affected by these disruptions in Scotland remains unclear. Separately, around 5 pm on Sunday afternoon, an engineer was en-route to a stalled train at Gleneagles.

ScotRail stated that due to a fault on a train at Gleneagles, trains are currently unable to run from Perth towards Glasgow, and services that pass through the Gleneagles area may be cancelled, delayed, or revised. The engineer would determine the cause of the fault once they arrived at Gleneagles. This additional disruption compounds the challenges for travelers, with normal service resumption times still uncertain.

In Sydney, train commuters have been warned to expect delays, as emergency services were called to Parramatta station on Thursday afternoon. The incident at Parramatta triggered delays across Sydney's western network. Transport NSW advised that trains may stop on platforms or between stations for longer than normal due to the incident at Parramatta.

The extent of the impact on commuters in Sydney has not been quantified, and it is unclear when services will return to normal. These disruptions highlight broader patterns of rail service interruptions, with investigations ongoing into both the Scottish incidents and the Sydney event. The Scottish disruptions are expected to affect commuters and travelers throughout the evening, with ScotRail advising passengers to check for updates before traveling.

Meanwhile, in Sydney, authorities are working to resolve the Parramatta incident and restore normal train operations as quickly as possible.
