Nyckelpunkter
  • A woman is in custody for five suspected arson cases in Sundsvall.
  • She has a prior arson conviction and was deemed a recidivism risk in 2019.
  • Charges must be filed by April 19, with details of the investigation still emerging.

The woman is suspected of setting fire to cars in a carport, according to official sources. She is also suspected of setting a fire in a laundry room and other smaller fires in the area in recent weeks, officials said. The woman was previously sentenced to forensic psychiatric care after setting a fire in Östersund, an official confirmed.

The prosecutor requested her remand in custody partly because she was previously sentenced for arson, the official added. The court determined in 2019 that she could relapse into crime, Aftonbladet reports. Charges must be brought by April 19 at the latest, an official stated.

The woman's identity and the exact timeline of the recent suspected arsons have not been disclosed, and it is unclear what evidence led to her arrest and remand.
