Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 2025

Reed News respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our news aggregation service on web and mobile platforms.

1. Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of data to provide and improve our service:

Device Information

We collect device model, operating system version, app version, and a unique installation identifier. This identifier is randomly generated and is not linked to your personal identity.

Usage Analytics

We track app interactions to understand how our service is used and to improve the user experience. This includes: articles viewed and reading progress, search queries, content interactions (saves, shares, likes), navigation patterns, and session information.

Location Data

With your explicit permission, we collect your location to show news relevant to your area. We use GPS coordinates to determine your city and country. Your precise coordinates are processed locally on your device and only city-level information is used for news personalization. You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.

Crash and Performance Data

We automatically collect crash reports, error logs, and performance metrics to maintain app stability and fix issues. This data includes technical information about the error but does not contain personal content.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data solely to:

  • Provide and personalize the news service
  • Show location-relevant news (with permission)
  • Improve app performance and fix bugs
  • Analyze usage patterns to enhance features

We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising or marketing purposes.

3. Third-Party Services

We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. All data collection is handled directly by Reed News through our own infrastructure. The only external services we use are the operating system's built-in location and secure storage features.

4. Data Retention

We retain data for the following periods:

  • Analytics data: 90 days
  • Crash and error reports: Until issues are resolved, typically within 30 days
  • Location cache: 24 hours (stored locally on your device only)
  • Installation identifier: Until you uninstall the app

Local preferences (language, theme) are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to our servers.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access information about what data we have collected
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Withdraw consent for location collection at any time
  • Opt out of analytics by contacting us

If you are located in the European Union, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information is collected and the right to request deletion.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at privacy@reednews.app. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data. On iOS devices, sensitive data such as the installation identifier is stored in the secure Keychain. All data transmission uses encrypted HTTPS connections.

7. Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.
