The Swedish Coast Guard announced on January 15, 2026, that it is establishing an operations command to improve its ability to plan and lead operational activities. This move aims to enhance the Coast Guard's capacity to deliver maritime situational awareness internally and to other authorities, in response to a changed global security environment. The operations command will work alongside the Operational Tactical Center, Maritime Surveillance Center, Command Center, and Intelligence Unit to build a clearer management system for operational activities from strategic to tactical perspectives. According to the Coast Guard, the primary mission of the operations command is to follow operational direction and create clear operational plans to plan specific activities for the organization. Daniel Stenling, reportedly the deputy operational chief, stated that the goal is to do the right things at the right time.
